Model Description: A CreERT2-polyA expression cassette was knocked into the Slc6a11 gene start codon site. Slc6a11 encodes GAT3 (Gabt4), a sodium-dependent transporter that uptakes the inhibitory neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), which ends the GABA neurotransmission. When Slc6a11-CreERT2 mice are bred with mice containing loxP-flanked sequence, tamoxifen-inducible, Cre-mediated recombination will result in deletion of the floxed sequences in SLC6A11positive cells. Defects in Slc6a11 may result in epilepsy or behavioral and intellectual defects.
