FGF-8 (FGF8-b) is a member of the fibroblast growth factor family, which have wide mitogenic and cell survival activities. Additionally, they participate in a number of biological processes during prenatal development, postnatal growth and tissue generation. FGF family members have been implicated in tumour growth, FGF8 specifically in anchorage independent growth of mammary tumour cells. Adult expression of FGF8 is restricted to the testes and ovaries. As an embryonic epithelial growth factor, FGF8 sets up and maintains the midbrain/hindbrain border, and has further roles in limb development, organogenesis and left-axis determination. Recombinant Murine FGF-8b is a 22.5 kDa heparin binding growth factor consisting of 197 amino acids and shares 100% amino acid identity with human FGF-8b.
<1.0 EU/μg of recombinant protein as determined by the LAL method.
