HIV type 2 is a sub species of the lentIVIrus HIV. HIV-2 has a slower progression rate of the disease, as well as lower rates of transmission compared to HIV-1. Often patients infected with HIV-2 have a low VIral load and a slower rate of CD4 cell count decline as compared those infected with HIV-1.
