Description	HIF-2-alpha (also known as EPAS1) is a transcription factor involved in the induction of genes regulated by oxygen. It shares 48% sequence identity with HIF1-alpha (HIF1A). Like HIF1A, HIF-2-alpha regulates gene expression in response to hypoxia. It also regulates the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression and seems to be implicated in the development of blood vessels and the tubular system of the lungs. HIF2A is expressed at relatively higher levels in villus sections of placenta and in lung samples.
