TM2D3 contains a structural module related to that of the seven transmembrane domain G protein-coupled receptor superfamily. This protein has sequence and structural similarities to the beta-amyloid binding protein (BBP), but, unlike BBP, it does not regulate a response to beta-amyloid peptide. The deduced 221-amino acid protein contains several features of a G protein-coupled receptor, including 2 putative transmembrane domains in its C-terminal half, a DRY motif, and conserved cysteines and lysines. Northern blot analysis detected variable expression of a 1.4-kb BLP2 transcript in all human tissues examined. In situ hybridization of cynomolgus monkey coronal sections revealed extensive expression in neurons of the hippocampus/entorhinal cortex and neocortical regions.
