Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) exists in human tissues and organs. LDH is an important enzyme in the energy metabolism of body. The change of LDH quality and quantity will directly affect the body energy metabolism. When the body tissues and organs get diseased, LDH in the tissues and organs will change, and LDH in blood will change too. Increased LDH is mainly found in the acute myocardial infarction, virus hepatitis, cirrhosis of the liver, pulmonary infarction, some malignant tumors, skeletal myopathy, nucleated red blood cell of bone marrow failure (invalid hematopoietic), leukemia, especially acute lymphoblastic leukemia, malignant anemia. Patients with chronic kidney disease of uremia have normal LDH in serum. After dialysis treatment, the LDH activity will increase, which is related to the elimination of LDH inhibitor urea and the oxalate in serum.
