Transcriptional activator. Binds the cAMP response element (CRE) (consensus: 5'-GTGACGT[AC][AG]-3'), a sequence present in many viral and cellular promoters. Binds to asymmetric CRE's as a heterodimer and to palindromic CRE's as a homodimer.
Specificity
Natural and recombinant Mouse Cyclic AMP-dependent transcription factor ATF-4
Subcellular Location
Cytoplasm Cell membrane Nucleus Cytoplasm cytoskeleton centrosome Colocalizes with GABBR1 in hippocampal neuron dendritic membranes. Co-localizes with NEK6 in the centrosome.
Interacts with the C-terminal region of GABBR1 via the leucine zipper of its C-terminal bZIP domain. Interacts with the C-terminal region of GABBR2. Interacts with the N-terminal region of CEP290 (By similarity). Binds DNA as a homo- and heterodimer. Interaction with SATB2 results in enhanced DNA binding and transactivation by these transcription factors. Forms a heterodimer with TXLNG in osteoblasts. Interacts with NEK6.
