This novel cell line, NCU-MM-1, is dervied from a multiple myeloma pateint and carriess two kinds of chromosomal translocations involving the immunoglobulin light chian (IgL) gene loci without the presence of 14q32 translocations (14q+). Additionally, the Ig lambda locus is juxtaposed to the c-MYC locus at 8q24 resulting in the overexpression of c-Myc protein. On the derivative (11) chromosome, Iq kappa locus was also fused to the chromosome 11q23 locus. The cell line presents the following surface antigens: CD38, CD56, HLA-DR and is negative for any other T,B, and myeloid antigents. NCU-MM-1 cells secrete monoclonal IgG-kappa protein. This cell line is useful for for research regarding the proto-oncogene mappe dto 11q23 and for understanding the moecular origin of MM lacking 14q+.
