A member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. The cytochrome P450 proteins are monooxygenases which catalyze many reactions involved in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids and other lipids. This gene is part of a cluster of cytochrome P450 genes on chromosome 19. Another member of this family, CYP4F2, is approximately 16 kb away. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene.Cui X., Genomics 68:161-166(2000).Grimwood J., Nature 428:529-535(2004).The MGC Project Team, Genome Res. 14:2121-2127(2004).

Species
Homo Sapiens (Human)
Specificity
The antibody detects endogenous levels of total Cytochrome P450 4F11 protein.
Omega-hydroxylase that oxidizes a variety of structurally unrelated compounds, including fatty acids and xenobiotics. Plays a key role in vitamin K catabolism by mediating omega-hydroxylation of vitamin K1 (phylloquinone), and menaquinone-4 (MK-4), a form of vitamin K2. Hydroxylation of phylloquinone and MK-4 probably regulates blood coagulation
Protein Families

Tissue Specificity
Expressed mainly in human liver, followed by kidney, heart, and skeletal muscle.
