Description	The immortalized mouse olfactory placode cells (OP6) is a temperature sensitive clone derived from embryo E10 from C3H mouse olfactory placode. At the permissive temperature (33C) OP6 expresses a transcriptional profile representing intermediate-late developmental stages of the olfactory receptor neuron (ORN) lineage including O/E-1 and BF-1. It does not express olfactory marker protein (OMP) indicating this is not a mature ORN; however after differentiation at 39C there is a low level OMP detected. This cell line can also be induced by all-trans retinoic acid to differentiate into a population of mature bipolar ORN-like cells. OP6 can be used to examine embryonic events that lead to the establishment of the mature ORN phenotype and to examine factors that regulate the timing of generation of different classes of olfactory placode-derived neurons and glia.

Propagation	Use of PriCoatTM T25 Flasks (G299) or Applied Cell Extracellular Matrix (G422) is required for cell adhesion to the culture vessels. Grow cells in ECM-coated culture vessels unless otherwise specified in the Propagation Requirements below.The base medium for this cell line is Prigrow III medium available at abm; Cat. No. TM003. To make the complete growth medium; add the following components to the base medium: fetal bovine serum (TM999)* to a final concentration of 10% and Penicillin/Streptomycin Solution (G255) to a final concentration of 1%.Change media every 2-3 days.Carbon dioxide (CO2): 5%; Temperature: 33.0C.* Do not use heat-inactivated FBS for cell culture unless specified otherwise.
